Happy 200th Post-aversary to me!

Cooking has been kept to a minimum at my house now that that gorgeous weather has settled on Toronto. But, Sunday Dinner always ensures that at least once a week I create something interesting. This week I was on dessert duty. I made a carrot cake with cream cheeze icing. The icing was just OK. I wasn't crazy about the Yoso brand I bought to begin with, and I was hoping that the addition of icing sugar would work some magic. It worked, but I wouldn't call it magical.
I'm still addicted to the wheat kernels/berries! I made a tabbouleh type salad with them this time, with lots of parsley, lima beans, tomatoes and lemon vinaigrette.
I found more interesting finds in Chinatown this week. On the left are bean curd sheets that were layered, cut and tied into little knots. The instructions suggest adding them to soup....so I'll do that on my next Pho craving. And, on the right are more bean curd sheets, wrapped up real tight. I'm thinking of marinating them as is and then frying them to make a nice crispy outer layer.

Happy 200th post! Yes, beautiful weather does put a damper on cooking, and rightly so. It's good to see what you've cooked up, though! Sorry the cream cheese icing didn't do it for you.

That cake looks really great, the decorating job is beautiful. I have some wheat berries I've been meaning to use, thanks for the idea. ADDITIONALLY.. you're so creative with the funky asian food, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Happy 200th! Your cake is beautiful, even though you didn't love it. I've used those bean curd knots several times and I've never been able to get the knots soft. Maybe a soup is the answer.

How random - I've also got a package of those little tofu knots in my fridge... but mine didn't come with any instructions! So, I wasn't at all sure what to do with them. Maybe I'll try out a soup concept... ;)

I love how you always find interesting stuff at your asian market. One of these days, I'm just going to print your pics and bring them to my asian market and annoy them until they give in. LOL

I think you did a perfect job icing that cake. Beautiful :)

Wow, nice frosting decor. Simple, but elegant.

I'm jealous of all the Asian grocers you have in Toronto. We have a few here in Buffalo, but it's not nearly as magnificent. (and we have no Ethiopean!)

I made a new vegan food blog, check it out if you have time :)
