My Latest Obscession

I'm coo coo for curries lately. Usually I prefer to make sauces and such from scratch, but now I'm of the "why bother?" mind. My cupboards are now overflowing with premade curry pastes...Indian, Thai, Vietnamese. Love it. I'm surprised at how many vegan ones I'm able to find! Sometimes they'll have fish or dairy in them, but not these ones. And, I'm still on the look-out for more. My other latest find that I'm totally stoked about is ethiopian ingera! I love it because it's so spongy and sour, but I also found out that the grain it's made from (tef) is super high in protien and iron! I found it in an Ethiopian store in Kensington market - one of those places that I've walked by a million times and never noticed.
I had tonnes of leftover scraps of cake from making the running shoes, so I turned them into a dessert for Sunday dinner. It's cake, crumbled cookies, and an ice cream type concoction made with pureed bananas, sponge toffee and butterscotch extract. I found it a little too sweet and the flavour didn't really match the chocolate cake. Next time I think plain old vanilla soy ice cream would be better suited.

So I typed my nickname into google and I came across this site. I was curious. Does your name rhyme with vegan too? Or do you pronounce it MAYGEN? Mine is spelled Megan on my birth certificate and pronounced MEEGAN. I was just pretty excited to find another Megan the Vegan.

I'm cuckoo for curries, too. I don;t know what I would do without my Asian grocery stores.

I'm also a big fan of Ethiopian food. Isn't it funny how many different kinds of bread there are in the world?

It took injera a while to grow on me, but now I'm an unabashed fan. Yay for Ethiopian food!

(and curry. and awesome desserts served in fancy glasses.)

I love injera. The sell it at my local Quickie (sorta like a 7/11). Every time I buy it the clerks give me different recipe suggestions, but the most common one is injera rolled up with cream cheese. That dessert looks delicious, btw.

So good, Megan. You are so original, what a dessert. Served so beautifully, a pleasure for the palate and the eyes.

i'm not the world's biggest curry fan, but i love your selections there. Nice obsession to have, btw. There are sure worse things i'm obsessed over! Ha!!

I freaking love injera. I spent some time in Ethiopia two years ago, and ate SO MUCH injera when I was there. I haven't found teff flour anywhere since then, and I certainly haven't found injera for sale.

An Ethiopian professor of mine says it's not quite the same when it's made outside of Ethiopia, because of the altitude, but I'm sure it's still delicious!

Ingera how I love the....let me count the ways!!!

mahek - hi! What else...butter chicken sauce, without the butter or the chicken, and korma. Both so YUM!

Megan - Hello namesake. Actually, my blog name is only cleaver in writing, cause I'm not pronounced mEEgan, but maygan. Too bad...it's be so cool if it actually rhymed. A lot of people I know intentionally mispronounce vegan so that it rhymes with Megan...which is how the nickname came to be for me.

Do you have a good injera recipe and any tips? I've tried one in the past and it didn't turn out as I had hoped. the dishes we made with the injera were delicious, but I need to figure out what went wrong with the bread. Tips?
