Give it up for Squirrel! I received her cookbook The Damn Tasty Vegan Guide to Baking in the mail just the other day, and I knew I had to make the Chocolate Peanut Butter Shell cookies first because I've heard they are Damn Tasty! Indeed they are! Paul thought they were absolutely magical. Peanut butter inside chocolate....that's the stuff dreams are made of!
P.S. A REALLY mean joke would be to take these into a home where there are peanut allergies!
I was so excited when I found this non-hydrogenated vegan cream cheese in Fresh and Wild this afternoon. My excitement didn't last long. It's horrible! It has that terrible raw tofu taste that I particularly despise and find in many soy pudding recipes. Yuck, yuck, yuck. Darn too, cause it would have been great to find a replacement for the hydrogenated Toffutii vegan cream cheese.

Aww, that's too bad. I love Yoso's yogourt and would have been first in line for their cream cheese. I'll stick with Tofutti for now.
HOW did you get the peanut butter inside the chocolate? I've made those cookies twice now and they just did NOT come out that nice :-(
Yours look lovely!
Woah! Those cookies look just like my recipe for peanut butter surprise cookies. I'm going to have to get my hands on her cook book to compare!
so I'm not the only unlucky one who only finds the hydrogenated version here, eh? why, oh why, are they still making it? why don't they make the non-hydro one easier to find?
Wow, I figured if I could get the non-hydrogenated tofutti here in Sudbury, it would be available everywhere!
Thanks for the heads up about Yoso's cream cheese...I do love their yogurt though.
looks awesome!!!!!!!!!
Megan - is that the grocery store under the condo building at Adelaide and Spadina? Who knew that they'd carry vegan cream cheese (albeit, very gross!).
Those cookies sound marvelous, but they look like hummus filled pumpernickel! Actually, that would be pretty good too!
Who cares if it's a cruel joke!? BRING THEM TO MY HOUSE!!! I just won't let Julia have any!
parasol...I've never seen Yoso's yogurt before. Hmm...now I wonder if I'd like it.
Tania - I have 2 different sized ice cream scoops. I used the big one for the chocolate, and then flattened the ball out. I used the little one for the filling, and flattened it out slightly. Then I wrapped the chocolate around the filling and tried to keep it in a cookie shape.
Webly - Kris mentioned that her recipe was inspired from another one she used to use....so maybe they are very similar?
Celine - I didn't know they even made a non-hydro one! I certainly haven't seen it, but I'm gonna look hard for it.
Melissa - Hmm...why don't I have this non-hyro stuff? I might have to make a trip to Sudbury!
johanna - thanks!
Sonya - Yes that's the Fresh and Wild I was talking about! It's at King and Spadina...and I'm at King and Bath, so it's right down the street. Actually they carry a few cool veggie things...check them out.
Judy - I'll never look at those cookies the same way now! YOu are too funny.
Dana...no way. I've already tattooed myself a mental note that I'm never allowed to bring these near Julia!!! tsk tsk....you just lost mommy points !!!
megan,
tofutti actually has a brand of cream cheese that is not hydrogenated! it is in a blue and yellow container and you can only get it at health food stores and whole foods really....
ill have to check out that place you mentioned at king and spadina...
I want one those cookies!
