....with my own cooking. Is that wrong? Vain? Arrogant? Likely. But after 2 weeks of eating food I didn't like, I'm so happy to have full control over my diet!
One of the first meals I made when I got back was this spicy thai basil tofu. There's a restaurant near my work that makes the best spicy thai basil tofu, and I've always wanted to see if I could replicate it. When you bite into their tofu, the best tasting sauce just oozes all over your taste-buds. I bought the pre-fried puffed tofu from the chinese market and simmered it in a thai sauce with faux chicken stock, vineger, sugar, soy, onions, garlic, ginger etc and tonnes and tonnes of thai basil. It turned out amazing...can't wait to make it again....but a double (maybe triple) batch!
Tempeh noodle and salad bowl with lemon-tahini dressing and lots of raw veggies. (Raw veggies, what are those?)
Spinach salad with roasted mushrooms and breaded tofu....topped with the maple miso dressing from my the Down to Earth cookbook (quickly becoming one of my favourites).

I would be in love with my own cooking too, after a trip where I could not get decent vegan food! I loved the pics from your last post... I'm sorry that you couln't find decent vegan food, but am inspired by this post, because it is the best to create healthy and delicious food at home!
Yay, home cooking! I love my home cooking too, but I think I'd also be ok with yours. I don't think I've ever had puffed up tofu before, but that dish sounds amazing.

Good if you like to try cooking Thai food at home
Oh YES!
I hear you!!! I love my own cooking most of all! ha ha! I eat out often, but it's only for convenience. Nights when I have time to cook up something yummy and homemade are abso-smurfly the BEST. Especially after a long period of eating less-than-desirable and repetitious food while travelling.
Welcome home,
the tofu looks fantastic!!
Wow, Megan, everything looks unbelievably great, and after the trip that you had, where good veg food was few & far between, i love to know that you're home again and doin' it up right! Good job, Megan!
It's not wrong at all to be in love with your own cooking, especially when it looks that good!
so glad you're back and enjoying your kitchen!
selfishly, 'm pretty glad you're back 'cause your blog always inspires me and everything is always so interesting and looks so tasty! that tofu? YUM!
Home cooking, Home cooking and more Home cooking!
welcome back -
what you made looks like the same sort of fare I cook up when I return home from travels.
After so much bread, potatoes, cheese-free pizza, noodles, etc. I'm usually craving insane amounts of tempeh, broccoli, and raw veggies.
love your blog!
Everything looks so good, but especially the breaded tofu on the bottom. Possibly tonights dinner....
It's great to get back to eating what you want to eat, isn't it? Everything looks so fresh and delicious.
Yummmy! I know what you mean, about being away from your own kitchen or making your own food for a while!
recreating a food you adore and don't know how to make can possibly be some of the happiest moments ever! these dishes look uber tasty!
I love your cooking too! Home cooking is best because you always know what you're getting. Those tofu puffs really soak up flavors. It's so great to recreate a favorite restaurant dish. Two salads - awesome!
The downside of traveling is the unfamiliarity with the local food. BUT it can be a big plus too. Glad to see you're well fed and home :)
I know exactly what you mean. I miss my cooking so much after being away. I also really, really want to try that thai tofu dish - I've recently fallen in love with basil in thai food.
I know what you mean.. I can't wait to get into my own apartment this summer.. I will be cooking dinner every night. NEVER AGAIN cafeteria food!
Your breaded tofu looks real good :-)
I think I'm in love with your cooking, too---and I've never even HAD it! I bet it's better than any restaurant's :-)
it would be wrong NOT to be in love with something as beautiful [and tasty I'm sure] as your cooking! :]
Hope you had a great time in Spain, how exciting though to get back to your own kitchen. That basil tofu looks amazing, I wish I could try it.
I loev any kind of ASian tofu. Those little tofu dumplings look so cute all nestled in your wok.
You guys are all so sweet feeding my ego like that! But really...I'm crazy for the thai basil tofu. Next time I'm going to accurate measure the marinate ingredients so I can be sure to replicate it!
I love your home cooking too! :) Looks so good. I love how you can successfully recreate your favourite dishes from restaurants!
I also like my own cooking better than eating out most of the time, but I have to say from the pictures, I'd prefer your cooking! I love basil tofu, but I can never get my tofu perfect. I come close with sesame oil and cornstarch, but I do think they do something special to the kind you buy... But that salad looks gorgeous too. So much inspiration here.
i'm in love - i'm in love, too! mmm... for those thai goodness, especially thai basil tofu!!! if you'd ever open a restaurant, i don't think i'd leave...
