Hey Sister, it's Payback Time!

Ages ago my oldest sister fed me appetizers with bits of shrimp in them as a joke to see if I'd notice. I didn't notice until I saw the package they came from...and then boy did she get in trouble! I've long since forgiven her, but I've never forgotten. Tonight when she decided to come over for dinner I felt it was payback time! She's the biggest meat eater I've ever met....the kind of girl that orders her steak "blue", but not tonight. Tonight she ate tofu! And she went back for seconds!

I made cannelloni stuffed with crumbled tofu, spinach, onions, garlic, walnuts and a wee bit of lemon juice. It was my first time using the oven-ready type, which although convenient, left the sauce tasting a little starchy. That said, I'd definitely make them again. I wish I could find whole wheat cannelloni pasta.I get excited when I'm able to make leftovers into a completely different dish. Here I took the roasted garlic, onions, potatoes and yams I had from Sundays BBQ, pureed them with some stock and spices, and made roasted veggie soup. I'm not sure if I loved it cause it was so easy or because it tasted great. Maybe it was a little of both. Now I'm going to make a point of roasting extra veggies so I can make soup the next day.

What your sister did was not very nice, but I'm glad you forgave her. My sis once said that she wanted me to go to a steak house to eat steak with her for a present... although I said I'd go for the mighty good baked potatoes. The soup looks wonderful for a blustery day like I see outside right now. Glad you got your sister back, mine has also tasted some mighty tastey vegan food at my house.

It would be better if your sister had a ethical obligation to eating tofu! Maybe she does... there are a few people like that in my family :)

I love the idea about roasting veggies and presto-chango-ing them into soup! Thanks for the idea.

ha! Good for you. Both dishes look delicious! Roasting surplus veggies is a good idea...

Well normally payback is a B*Tch, but your sister totally lucked out on yummy eats instead. I'm sure she's ready to go vegan now!

That's so awful! My sister has never done anything like that, but she still laughs at me. Now I have to try some sort of awesome tofu dish...

I agree... not nice of your sister! Sabotage is mean... and i can tell you i've been sabotaged by peeps before as well! But forgiveness for such cruelty... you are a great woman, Megan! That is kind of you but ah, sometimes getting back is the best, tho it would have been even cooler if it was as parasol wrote... if she thought she really hated tofu or seomething!! Way to go, Megan! i'm always hopeful for "converts" to veggiedom!

I thought revenge was a dish best served cold, but appearantly it's a dish best served with tofu!

You lived every vegan's irrational nightmare, and came up ahead- cool!

Hey Guys.....I should have mentioned. My sister is always making fun of tofu....so the fact that I 1 - got her to eat it, and 2 - got her to like it is just amazing!

Wow, that was rotten of your sister.

Tofu filling is really good. I don't think that's payback at all.

Payback would be putting a plastic bug at the bottom of her coffee cup and letting her think it was real.

Hmmm, I'm an angry person... Your solution was much nicer.

It's beautiful food and I love your creative use of left overs.
