Sunday full of meals

One of my new year's resolutions was to have more friends and family over for meals. Yesterday I finally got my act together! I made another puff pastry braid, this time shaped as a horse shoe and filled with chick peas, veggies, sesame oil and cilantro. I thought it turned out really pretty (except for the bit that fell apart near the top) and tasted perfect....as anything wrapped in puff pastry does!
My nephew was eyeing these from the moment he walked in the door, and it killed him to have to wait 'til the end of the meal. Poor guy! Strawberries are a prettier decoration than I could ever pipe with icing, and much much easier.
It was Ewa's turn to host Sunday Dinner and as you can see she went all out! This is what she calls her 'thanksgiving dinner' feast with all that you see hear, plus salad, veggie gravy, and organic chicken for the boys. It amazing what that girl can cook with only a stove top and a toaster oven. She still doesn't have an oven in her new kitchen! But the dishwasher is coming soon, thank goodness!
We ended the evening with more cupcakes....this time I dipped the strawberries in chocolate to make them even more decadent!

The horse shoe looks so pretty!

Is it really phyllo btw, or puff pastry?

Bravo to you for your family and friends over for dinner resolution. I also think in my mind that I would do more of that this year but have yet to do it. You are my new inspiration.

Absolutely gorgeous. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven with those chocolate-dipped strawberry-topped cupcakes.

Where do you buy the dough pastry from? And how did you make the chick-pea mixture? Did you stuff it into the braid while it was hot?

The pastry sounds so good and looks beautiful! My nephews are coming to visit next week and have requested cupcakes. Chocolate and strawberry looks like a winner!

Those strawberries looks amazing. Haha, who am I kidding, it's the cupcakes I'm really eyeing. The entire meal looks fantastic. I wish I could have more meals with family members and friends, pity most of them live far away.

The braid must have been really tasty, if I ever stop dieting I'll have to try making it :)

Wow, those cupcakes are so beautiful! I have to make 2 dozen cupcakes for my son's band fundraiser tomorrow and I still am trying to figure out what to do..

Did your cupcake frosting hold up at room temperature? For how long? What frosting recipe did you use?

I was going to make Coconut Cupcakes with Chocolate "Buttercream" frosting, but now, these look so beautiful that I want to try to find decent strawberries and dip them in chocolate like you did.. oy.. the decisions one has to make! lol

Your puff pastry looks beautiful as usual.. it really is a stunning presentation..

Good to see you're tormenting the boy while he's away from his sisters. Julia would be proud. :)

well... the boys loved their chicken, we loved our portobellos; what more can be said. I wonder if the boys will do Sunday night dinner while we're in Spain?

Everything is so beautiful... I'd enjoy eating all that even if it didn't taste good--and I'm sure it was delicious!

The stuffed pastry horseshoe, the decadent cupcake- it's all so gorgeous, I think I can actually taste it...but I can't. Wishful thinking on my part- that cupcake looks too scrumptious!
